Concept
The concept was to design a modern energy efficient home in a style that evoked the look and feel of a converted barn. Great care was taken in optimising the location of the proposed building and the roof was designed so that it is kept as low as possible without compromising high levels of roof insulation and good floor to ceiling heights. The design does not appear too bulky or too high and so avoids harming the views from the surrounding countryside or the listed building. Materials were chosen that are readily found in local farm / barn like buildings. Additional landscaping was designed in the form of a new tree lined avenue on the front drive approach and a raised grass bank with additional native trees to soften and partially screen the views from its surroundings.
